AP Reporting On NYPD Is Among Polk Award Winners →
Also being honored is Sara Ganim, a 24-year-old crime reporter for The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa. Ganim helped uncover a grand jury investigation into allegations of child sex abuse against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Her reporting helped expose allegations of an institutional cover-up that led to the ouster of Joe Paterno, the most successful football coach...

Obligatory post on Linsanity
From our school’s Chinese Student Association email blast: (I’m not sure if the author is a Penn student or what sort of audience he wrote this for.) LINSANITY - Thomas Chen Jeremy Lin’s 83-year old grandmother is treated like Lady Gaga back in Taiwan. Everyone who doesn’t live under a rock has heard of LINsanity. Whether it’s sports fans, Asian-Americans, or an...

Quick List
Being a DP editor is definitely a full time job. It takes a lot to move a large organization forward. But it is fun and challenging in a way that work is and that schoolwork, I think, never will be. I am lucky to be working at the DP. I have a feeling tons of real-life jobs aren’t half as rewarding and permissive as this one. There are a lot of types of people out here in the world....

In that kind of mood
I think I’m coming down with a little something — my voice is beginning to sound weird, but only to myself — and I can’t say I really mind. This weekend has been a slow down, take pause kind of two three days. Campus is poppin’: the Vagina Monologues, Excelano Project, the impending sorority big-little week, and then the regular spiel of bars and parties …  My idea of a good...

It has begun.
DP + exams + case = all-nighters, kind of. I don’t know why it always ends up like this, but I enjoy late nights/early mornings working on case things and thinking through strategy.  If there’s one thing that’s DP’s helped with this semester, it’s being totally and completely used to 4 a.m. 5 a.m. nights. I function perfectly.  Let’s see how long this’ll...

A man, a plan, a canal ... and Havana
I’ll be headed to Cuba and Panama for Spring Break 2012 (WIP, what what!). Attended a 3-hour pre-trip session yesterday afternoon and was hooked; I can’t wait. Fun facts: It’s illegal to buy things with US dollars in Cuba. We might not even be going to Cuba because some smartass, Alan Gross, decided in 2009 to smuggle satellite and computer equipment to the Jewish community in...

NYT Opinion: What We Talk About When We Talk About... →
The office is flurrying with pro-BDS, anti-BDS, pro-Israel, anti-Israel, pro-this, pro-that, anti-everything, anti-nothing (you get the picture) sentiment this week.  I’m excited that something so politically-charged is coming to campus. I plead the fifth on grounds of not knowing enough to take one side or another, but the action that’s going on around the conference, the decisions...
